Patriots Defeat Bills in AFC East Rivalry

After coming off a 27-14 win over the Indianapolis Colts, the Buffalo Bills seemed like a serious contender against the New England Patriots. The Patriots ended the game with a 40-32 win. With Rex Ryan as the Bills new head coach, he has felt the hype while playing against Brady in the AFC East.
Brady dominated the game in Orchard Park, NY where it is known that Bills fans are loud and roudy. The Patriots quarterback threw for 466 passing yards and had three touchdowns. With the victory on Sunday, the Patriots are now 27-3 in wins over the Bills within the past 30 years.
Rob Gronkowski was back in his hometown of Buffalo, NY and once again dominated the game with 7 receptions for 113 yards and a touchdown. Julian Edelman also had a huge game with 11 catches for 97 yards and two touchdown receptions. Running back Dion Lewis has been making his name well known with another great game. Lewis had seven carries for 40 yards and one rushing touchdown. He also had six catches for 98 yards by the end of the game.
Tyrod Taylor also had three touchdown passes and threw for 242 yards. Running back LeSean McCoy also had a good game with 15 carries for 89 yards. Karlos Williams scored the first points in the game with a rushing touchdown in the first quarter.
Even though the Bills began the game with a touchdown, Brady, Belichick, and the Patriots took over the lead and dominated the rest of the game. With three touchdowns and a field goal in the first half, the Patriots commanded the game going into the third quarter. Malcolm Butler once again helped the Patriots lead the game with an interception in the second quarter. Safety Duron Harmon also ended the half with an interception and a 20 yard return.
The third quarter gave all football fans a scare when safety Aaron Williams was removed from the field in an ambulance after suffering a neck injury defending Edelman’s touchdown. Thankfully Williams was released from the hospital later that day with full movement in all his extremities.
The Bills came charging back in the fourth quarter with three touchdowns to bring the score to 37-32 with four minutes to go in the fourth quarter. Ryan would not let Belichick off that easily. The Patriots used the time clock well and ended the game with a field goal, bringing the score to 40-32.
Belichick recognized the home field advantage the Bills had: “There was a lot of energy in the stadium… I thought that after the first drive our team showed a lot of mental toughness and resiliency to come back in a pretty hostile atmosphere…”. It’s always an exciting matchup between the Patriots and Bills, especially with both teams 1-0 going into the game. Rob Gronkowski had a lot to say coming back to Buffalo: “It’s great going on the road and having a big atmosphere. Buffalo was 1-0, they were hot at the moment. It was great to come in especially getting them quiet out there…”. With the Patriots now 2-0 (only eight other teams in the NFL are also undefeated) they look ahead to their next match up against the Jacksonville Jaguars this Sunday at Gillette Stadium.
